Virbhadra Singh accused of misusing fund

Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA: The State BJP has accused the Virbhadra- led Congress Government of misusing an amount of Rs 533 crore sanctioned for the `Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' during the NDA rule at the Centre.

The party spokesman, Randhir Sharma, claimed in a statement here on Sunday that though the money was meant for broadening the educational infrastructure in the State and for opening up new educational institutions, the present Government had closed 128 primary schools.

Flaying the decision, he blamed the Government for wasting the public money and playing with the future of students living in the countryside. He said that the BJP had constructed three rooms in every school under the `Sarswati Bal Vidya Sankalp Yojana' a couple of years ago and now they would go waste.

Mr. Sharma said that the Congress had pledged in its manifesto to give a job to at least one family member after coming to power but now it had removed 936 technical assistants who were appointed during the BJP's rule. He that with the signing of the controversial fiscal reforms MoU, there was virtually no scope for Government jobs in the State.

He further claimed that the State Government had cancelled the legitimate appointments of TGT teachers, cancelled JBT exams twice due to political reasons and had removed more than 6000 labourers from the Government departments of Forest, PWD and IPH. The Chief Minister who had promised not to touch the jobs of technical assistants during the Budget Session was now back tracking. This was an insult to the dignity of the House, he said.

"Virbhadra government has given fewer jobs and snatched more", Mr Sharma maintained

The State CPI-M Secretary, Rakesh Singha, has also criticised the Government decision on closing of 128 primary schools in the State.
