Nasru's brother still critical

BANGALORE: Four policemen, who were injured when police raided the hideout of Syed Nasru in Anekal town on the outskirts of Bangalore in the early hours of Saturday, are recovering, according to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, City Crime Branch, B.K. Shivaram.

Inspector Ratnakar Shetty, Assistant Sub-Inspector Hanumanthaiah, Sub-Inspector Naganagowda and Head Constable Rudra Murthy of the Organised Crime Prevention Cell of the CCB were injured in the incident in which Nasru, an accused in 50 criminal cases, was shot dead.

Mr. Shetty, Mr. Hanumaiah, and Mr. Rudra Murthy were attacked by the members of Nasru's gang, while a stray bullet hit Mr. Naganagowda. All the policemen are being treated at the Sagar Apollo Hospital.

Mr. Shetty, who was hit on his neck by a sharp weapon, was on Sunday shifted from the intensive care unit to the general ward.

"The bleeding around his neck has stopped. The doctors are treating him to bring sensation in one of his ears," Mr. Shivaram said.

He said doctors had removed the bullet that had pierced Mr. Naganagowda's leg. "All are responding well to the treatment," he added.

Condition critical

Mr. Shivaram said the condition of Wasim (27), brother of Nasru, who was injured in the shootout, was still critical. He is being treated in SDSTB and Rajiv Gandhi Chest Diseases Institute.
