Health camps for women

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Identifying orthopaedic disorders of the back and neck as the bane of Indian women, Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Sunday said yoga and alternate system of medicine would help address the issue in a major way.

Addressing women, mainly from the economically weaker sections of the society who undertook health check-ups and obtained counselling for literacy, skill development and legal aid at the Stree Shakti camp here, the Chief Minister instructed the Social Welfare Department to see to it that yoga and alternate system of medicine were made available to women participating in the camps. Organised by the Delhi Government under its Bhagidari scheme in all the nine districts of the Capital, the camps besides providing health check-ups are also aimed at women's empowerment. To encourage more women participation throughout the city, Ms. Dikshit visited the camps at the Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, Rampura; Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Jehangirpuri; and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Primary School, Govindpuri.

She was accompanied by the State Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri, and the Industry Minister, Mangat Ram Singhal.

Appealing to women to come forward and avail of the services being offered at these camps, Ms. Dikshit advised them to be more conscious about their health.
