This Day That Age
King Mahendra of Nepal declared in Kathmandu on May 8 that he would be fixing the date for the general elections in the country within three months. Addressing a conference of political and social organisations, the King said he would in no case allow the country to "go to ruin in the name of democracy." During the last four years democratic cabinets had been formed and dissolved without any achievement.
