Take them to task

The problem of elected members abstaining from Parliament and State Assemblies should be tackled innovatively. The elected representatives should attend at least 20 per cent of the allocated time for a particular session. A person failing to attend less than this period, without leave of absence from the chair, should be disqualified immediately after the end of the session.

K.S. Ravichandran,
Coimbatore, T.N.

Frequent adjournments have become a routine affair in the 14th Lok Sabha. Is it for this that we sent members to Parliament? There should be widespread protest against what is happening daily in Parliament.

J. Dasgupta,
Coimbatore, T.N.

The Constitution must be amended to make attendance during sittings of both Houses of Parliament compulsory for the members. State Legislative Assemblies and Councils can follow suit.

Sqn. Ldr. B.G. Prakash,
Bangalore
