Women's reservation

Whenever the issue of reservation for women crops up, I have some questions: does not the reservation of 1/3rd seats in Parliament and State Legislatures for women amount to discrimination on the basis of gender which is against the spirit of the Constitution? Where is the guarantee that an agitation for reserving 50 per cent of the seats will not be made once 1/3rd quota is allotted?
