PONDICHERRY: The State Committee meeting of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday decided to picket government offices in Pondicherry on July 12 to highlight the "failure" of the government to hold Panchayat elections. The party will hold public meetings from June 20-30 to protest against the government's apathy in conducting elections. The meeting also urged the Central Government not to convert the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) into an autonomous institute and not shift the ONGC offices from Karaikal to Mayiladuturai. CPI National executive committee member Nallakannu was present at the meeting.
