MADURAI: : State Government employees across the country will go on strike soon against the "anti-working class attitude" of the Central and State Governments. The date will be announced later. A meeting of the All-India State Employees Coordination Committee took the decision. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, general secretary M.N.V.G. Adiyodi and the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union vice-president K. Balasubramanian said the employees had no option as the Centre, which promised to protect the rights of employees and workers, did not take any favourable step. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government was not keen on supporting the working class, especially government employees. "The Centre is not serious about the problems faced by the State Government employees," he said. There were 80 lakh State Government and 32 lakh Central Government employees in the country. Their demand for legislation to protect the right to strike as promised in the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA Government was yet to be conceded, he said. They wanted pay and allowances to be revised and the Centre ensure that the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission were applied to State Government employees also.
