TIRUPATI: Bhuman Subramanyam Reddy, a strong Rayalaseema protagonist and president of the Rayalaseema Parirakshana Committee has expressed serious reservations over the very approach and the demands being put forth by the Rayalaseema Hakkula Aikya Vedika floated by the Kurnool-based businessman and former MLA, T. G. Venkatesh. The issues on which the two pro-Rayalaseema outfits are differing are the demand of the Vedika that Kurnool be declared the second State capital and that in the event of Telengana being formed, the region must pay a huge compensation to the Rayalaseema region to off-set the loss it would suffer in the event. The vedika staking claim for entire Krishna waters and construction of dams in accordance with that was also opposed. Mr. Bhuman who attended the meeting convened by the Vedika on May 8 at Hyderabad wanted that the Vedika follow a more sensible approach on an emotional issue such as bifurcation without trying to precipitate the matter.
No to bifurcation
In a statement here, he sought to reiterate the firm stand of the parirakshana committee that it was never for the bifurcation of the State. "From the beginning we have been telling that if separation became inevitable, we -- the Rayalaseema people and the outfits representing its cause -- should be consulted and their views accommodated," he said. He also strongly objected to the Vedika's demand for a second capital and termed it irrelevant and said it might make the coastal people stake claim for a capital in their own region for the heck of it. The second capital issue should not be raised since Hyderabad was ideally suited for all, he said and added that if Telengana were bifurcated Hyderabad would automatically become a centrally administered territory. It should be done so, he insisted.
Compensation
On the demand for payment of compensation, he discounted the demand as unwise and asked what would be the fate of Rayalaseema if the coastal region demanded a similar compensation from the region in the event of Rayalaseema going separate. Bhuman appreciated the Government's stand on the implementation of the G.O. 610 and defended the TRS' demand for its implementation.
