KOLLAM: The 30th State junior boys' (under-19) handball championship will be held at the QAC handball courts here from Tuesday, with teams from all the districts except Wayanad in the fray. The three-day event is to be played on a league-cum-knockout basis, with the teams divided into four pools for the preliminary league matches. Kannur is the reigning champion and Malappuram the runner-up. The quarterfinals are to be played on May 11, and the semifinals and final on May 12. The State team for the National junior championship to be held in Renukoot (Uttar Pradesh) from June 1 to 6 will be selected at this event. The groupings: Pool A: Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, Kasaragod; Pool B: Malappuram, Thrissur, Idukki; Pool C: Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta; Pool D: Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kollam, Alappuzha.
