New Delhi: India edged out defending champion Pakistan in a thrilling final round to win the title in the 7th SAARC golf championship in Kandy (Sri Lanka). Jasjeet Singh and Himmat Rai won their respective matches as India, which finished runner-up last year losing the title to Pakistan, this time overcame it 2-1 at the Victoria Club Golf course. Jasjeet got the better of Vaqas Ahmed while Himmat Singh Rai tamed Waseem Rana to give India the win, an Indian Golf Union release said here on Monday. Gagan Verma put up a spirited fight before losing to Tariq Mehmood on the 18th hole. In the girls' section, host Sri Lanka clinched the title after India's Neha Majithia and Shalini Malik came up with disappointing performances. PTI
