Judicial remand for murder accused

RAIPUR: A court today remanded to judicial custody the five accused in the murder of NCP Chhattisgarh treasurer Ram Avtar Jaggi till May 20. Rejecting the bail applications of the five accused, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Raipur Rakesh Bihari Ghore also ordered to put them in separate cells.

The court also said the main accused Chiman Singh's face should be covered during the remand period. After the arrest of Chiman Singh in Guwahati and Yahya Dhebar, Abhay Goel, Firoz Siddique and Shivendra on April 28 here, all of them were taken to different places for interrogation during CBI remand and today the agency produced them in court requesting for their judicial remand.

The CBI also requested for putting Chiman, the alleged shooter, in a separate cell and his face covered during remand period as his identification is not complete whereas Shivendra would be lodged in Durg jail since he faced a threat to his life. However, the advocates of the accused, including Faisal Rizvi, moved bail applications, which was rejected by the court.

As per the CBI plea, the court ordered Shivendra to be lodged in Durg jail and checked by a psychiatrist and the report be submitted to the court. The court said the other four accused -- Yahyah, Abhay and Firoz -- be sent to Raipur jail and lodged in separate jails. Ram Avtar Jaggi was shot dead near Mohdapara police station in the heart of Raipur city on June 4, 2003.
