Paritala Sunita to file nomination on May 13

ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: Paritala Sunita, wife of slain MLA, P. Ravindra, will file her nomination for the Penugonda byelection on May 13. Mrs. Sunita made her first public appearance at Venkatapuram near the tomb of her husband on Monday, and addressed a gathering.

Meanwhile, the former IPS officer of Karnataka cadre, T. Srinivasulu, figures among probable Congress candidates for the bypoll. When contacted, he told The Hindu that the party had not contacted him yet.

Woman held on charge of killing daughter

ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: A tribal woman, Jayamma (35), allegedly killed her one-year-old daughter, Bhagyalaxmi, by drowning her in a drainage near Vidyanagar locality in Sircilla late on Sunday night. Locals who noticed the incident alerted the police, who have since arrested the woman. - Staff Reporter

10 killed in mishaps

ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: Six persons belonging to Andhra Pradesh were killed on the spot when the lorry in which they were travelling rammed a tree near Beechagondahali crossroads in Gudibanda on Monday. The deceased were identified as Ramanji (36), Venkataranga Reddy(30), Venkatesh (35), Kittapa (31), Sankarappa (36) and Chandrappa (30). In another mishap, four persons were killed when a four-wheeler carrying a marriage party overturned near Aluru on Sunday night. The deceased were Tanveer( 18), Nahida (13), Sheikvali (35) and Nadeer Khan (30). - Staff Reporter

Mahabharatha yagnam

ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: Mahabharatha yagnam will be performed at Sri Prasanna Veeranjaneya Swamy temple at Gandi in Chakrayapet mandal from May 13 to 26, according to the temple's Bhajana Mandali president, Subbarayudu. The yagnam is aimed at driving away drought from the mandal, he said in a statement. The temple committee chairman, K. Vijaya Kumar, offered Rs. 10,000 for the yagnam, he added. - Staff Reporter

Driver electrocuted

ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: A tipper driver, Hussain Saheb (45), was electrocuted and the cleaner, Srinivas, suffered burns when the tipper lift touched the main electric wire near Veligallu project in Galiveedu mandal on Monday. ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: The cricket summer coaching camp, sponsored by Nutrine Confectionery Company Private Limited, was inaugurated by the company's MD, Madhusudhan Reddy, here on Monday. ANANTAPURKARIMNAGARNELLOREADILABADKARIMN: Forest officials have seized red sanders worth Rs. 2.50 lakhs in Venkatagiri range limits on Sunday.
