MYSORE: "In the contemporary context the best way of bringing out the latent potential and abilities of children is through the use of computers," A.L.N. Sarma, Head of the Department of Education in Science and Mathematics, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, has said. He was speaking after inaugurating a five-day computer training programme for members of the Mysore Teachers' Resource Centre on Monday. Mr. Sarma highlighted the importance of computers and stressed the need for imparting computer education to all schoolchildren from the elementary stage. Many of the difficult concepts in science and mathematics can be better understood through the use of computer-assisted technology and the entire school system in the country should be geared up to provide computer education," he said.
Powerful tool
H.A.B. Parpia, Chairman, Peoples Education Trust, described computers as a powerful tool that can help students improve their thinking capacity. He said learning can be made more interesting through the use of computers and computer literacy is the need of the hour. He called for concerted efforts to strengthen the use computers in schools. Participants representing different schools from the city participated in the programme and they will be introduced to computers, MS Word, MS Excel, MS powerpoint, the Internet, teaching in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, and English.
