ISLAMABAD: India and Pakistan on Monday agreed on a three-month timeframe for resolution of differences in the Kishanganga hydro-electric power project at the level of Indus Waters Commissioners.

On the second day of a bilateral meeting in Lahore, the delegations also accepted the proposal to allow officials of Pakistan to visit the Kishanganga project site and officials of India to visit the Neelum Valley in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) for an assessment of the hydro-electric power projects of Pakistan.

Indian delegation chief D.K. Mehta, who is also India's Commissioner for Permanent Indus Waters Commission, told The Hindu on telephone from Lahore that talks had so far centred around the design of the Kishanganga project and inter-tributary transfer of water.

The third issue related to protection of existing agricultural and hydro-electric water projects of Pakistan.

According to Mr. Mehta, the exact dates for the visit of the two delegations would be worked out in the next few days.

The July 15 deadline for resolution of differences was subject to the review of the Indus Commissioners of both the countries.
