BANGALORE: Eligible voters in the Chamarajpet Assembly Constituency, whose names do not figure in the voters' list, can register their names till May 16 to exercise their franchise in the byelection on June 2. Registration can be done at the revenue office in Chamarajpet. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has made arrangements for the election, the BMP's district election officer, B.S. Shekharappa, told presspersons here on Monday. He said the model code of conduct is in force and official vehicles and personal staff of elected representatives have been withdrawn. Mr. Shekharappa said that of the 92 polling stations in the constituency, 32 have been identified as sensitive and 24 as hypersensitive. Adequate police security arrangements are in place. Electronic voting machines will be used in the byelection, he added. The byelection notification was issued on Monday. According to the poll schedule, the last date for filing nominations is May 16. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on May 17. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 19. Counting of votes will be held on June 5. Mr. Shekharappa said the returning officer will receive the nomination papers at the office of the Revenue Officer, BMP Commercial Complex, 1st Floor, J.C. Road, Bangalore. He urged all political parties, candidates and officers to adhere to the model code. He said no political party, candidate or individual should put up cut-outs, banners or hoardings or write slogans on walls without the written permission of the authorities.
