BANGALORE: The City Crime Branch on Monday arrested a man for allegedly using counterfeit currency notes of the denomination of Rs. 1,000 in a shop on Commercial Street. A team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chandrashekar B. Hoskeri, arrested Gangadhar (24) of Rajajinagar on a tip-off, and seized 100 such counterfeit notes. They all had the serial number "6 bb 2558012900," the police said. According to the police, a person close to Gangadhar had given him the notes, which had been printed on the latest machine. "There is hardly any difference between genuine Rs. 1,000 currency and the fake notes. The accused was caught because all the notes had the same serial number," a senior city police official said.

The police have also asked public to bring to their notice Rs. 1,000 notes having the same serial number as that of the fake notes seized.
