Letters to the Editor
L.V. Saptharishi, the poll observer for Bihar during the 2004 elections, has not explained why he waited a whole year to make the complaint against the Election Commissioners.
J. Vani,
It is imperative for the Electon Commissioners to prove their case since the allegations come from a Cabinet Minister on the basis of a report by a senior civil servant in his capacity as a poll observer.
C. Justin,
Lalu Prasad's demand that the Election Commissioners resign following the allegations made against is strange. Equally serious charges are pending against him and he remains in the Union Cabinet.
S. Sudhir Kumar,
It is unfortunate that a government servant, still in service, should make serious allegations against the Election Commissioners. The Election Commission had done a commendable job of conducting free and fair elections in 2004. Unfair criticism must be curbed.
Raghunadha Rao. K,
Union Law Minister H.R. Bharadwaj is correct in saying that it is not proper for Mr. Saptharishi, a civil servant, to criticise a constitutional authority. Mr. Saptharishi's charges against the Election Commission call for stringent disciplinary action.
K. Vasu,
To uphold the dignity and sanctity of the Election Commission, the Government should immediately dismiss Mr. Saptharishi. The Prime Minister should either ask Mr. Prasad to apologise to the Commission for his tirade or sack him from the Council of Ministers.
