Letters to the Editor
The editorial, `Remaining above the fray' (May 10), presents the issues in question in the right perspective. The Election Commission has indeed been maintaining moderation, self-restraint, and modesty so far as advised in the editorial.
The editorial seems to have chosen the wrong target. What was the need to lecture the Election Commission about modesty when the issue is totally different? The Law Minister has categorically denied receiving any letter from Mr. Saptharishi.
So, the questions are: How did Lalu Prasad get a letter supposedly written to the Law Minister? Why did Mr. Saptharishi remain silent for a year before breaking silence? What is his motive?
Vinoo Ramakrishnan,
Mr. Saptharishi's allegation against the EC is a "he said, she said" type of charge. He has not provided any credible evidence so far to support it. Also, why has he raised the issue a year late.
Shashi Kelkar,
