KARWAR: Jogi Beeranna Nayak, a freedom fighter of Hoskeri village, near Ankola, was felicitated at Satyagraha Smaraka High School, Shetegeri, on Monday for turning 100 by S.R. Nayak, judge, Karnataka High Court. Mr. Nayak also released a souvenie, "Shatabhinandane," on the occasion. After independence Mr. Jogi Nayak retired from political activities and devoted his life for social and cultural uplift of Ankola. He was instrumental in starting Gokhale Centenary College at Ankola, the Shetegeri Satyagraha Smaraka High School, and a tile factory near Ankola. He was the recipient of Janapada Academy Award for his contribution to Yakshagana. Subramanya R. Shetty, a freedom fighter, was the chief guest.
