MANGALORE: Close on the heels of the Dakshina Kannada District Anti-Rowdy Squad busting an inter-State gang of car thieves here on Sunday, the Puttur Rural Police on Monday arrested three persons said to be involved in lifting vehicles at Santyaru near Puttur. They have seized a multi-purpose vehicle, a car and a tipper lorry from them. The Puttur Rural Circle Police Inspector, T. Sanjeeva Naik, who under the directions of the Puttur Sub-Division Assistant Superintendent of Police, A.S. Rao, made the arrests on a tip-off, put the value of the vehicles at Rs. 20 lakhs. The names of the arrested were given as Mustaffa alias Mohammed Mustaffa and Abubakkar, residents of Katipalla near here and Tamim of Chennai. Mr. Naik said Mustaffa had reportedly stolen the multi-purpose vehicle from Keramule near Uppinangady. Mr. Naik said interrogation of Mustaffa's revealed that a gang, including Alex Rajendra and Tamim, was involved in the racket. The police recovered the tipper lorry reportedly stolen from Kerala, at Kaikamba near Kayyaru village and arrested Abubakkar. They then arrested Tamim with the car at Thingalady. The accused who were produced before a court were remanded in judicial custody.
