LML to launch new models

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Aiming to capture 10 per cent market share of the bike market by 2007-08, LML on Tuesday said it would launch new models in the coming months to expand its presence across all segments. The first to hit the market will be an entry-level 100-cc bike in August followed by upgraded versions of current models.

Stating that the company would be increasing its production capacity from two-lakh units to over seven-lakh units annually, the company's Managing Director, Deepak Singhania, said the expansion programme included doubling of four-stroke motorcycle production capacity from the existing two-lakh units to four-lakh units annually by October.

It expansion drive would be over by March 2007, taking the total production capacity to 7.2-lakh units.

Interestingly, the Kanpur-based two-wheeler manufacturer is buoyed by its recent financial as well as management restructuring and also has fresh funds worth Rs. 228 crores. LML also hopes to earn some profits by the end of this fiscal .

LML is also working on improving its exports. According to Mr. Singhania, exports were mostly to Latin American and Asian countries and would be looking for new markets once the new models were launched.
