Preparations made for Pulse Polio in Chitradurga

CHITRADURGA: All arrangements have been made for the pulse polio which will take off on Sunday.

Chairing the preparatory meeting in this regard here on Tuesday, S.H. Vijaya Kumar, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, asked officials to reach out to the masses in rural areas to immunise children below five years against polio. He instructed officials of the Department of Public Instruction and the Health Department to launch jathas and street plays to educate people about the importance of the pulse-polio programme. He also suggested that people's representatives be involved in such programmes.

Around 1.87 lakh children below five years have been identified and 1,020 immunisation centres will be opened, which will be manned by 2,250 people, Mr. Kumar said. Around 200 supervisors have been deployed to oversee the campaign.

During the previous pulse polio programme, 1.93 lakh children were immunised against polio in the district.

C.M. Noor Mansoor, Assistant Commissioner, and S. Rangaswamy, District Health Officer, participated in the meeting.
