Coach's post: Candidates asked to give presentation

Mumbai: The four candidates short-listed for the coach's post of Indian cricket team would be asked to give a presentation to the selection committee, BCCI Secretary, S.K. Nair, said on Tuesday.

``It would be somewhat similar to the last time when the candidates for the post were asked to give a presentation to the BCCI officials on how they intended to go about the job, their vision and their expectations,'' Nair said.

Nair was referring to the process adopted by the board when John Wright was appointed as coach following Kapil Dev's resignation from the post.

Confirming that letters and e-mails have already been sent by the BCCI to the four short-listed candidates — Indians Sandeep Patil and Mohinder Amarnath and Australians Greg Chappell and Tom Moody — Nair said the selection process could be completed much before the June 15 deadline announced by BCCI President, Ranbir Singh Mahendra.

``We may not wait till June 15. The president may choose the candidate after their interviews are done by the special committee and that decision later ratified by the board's Working Committee,'' Nair said.

``We are all eager to complete the process as early as we can,'' he added.

Meanwhile, BCCI Joint Secretary, Goutam Dasgupta, on Tuesday said in Kolkata that the interviews would be held either in Kolkata or in Delhi, tentatively on May 19 or 26.

`BCCI unaware'

The BCCI is still unaware of a reported plan of five Indian team members to play in a series of one-day matches alongside Pakistan and Sri Lanka against a Rest of the World selection in the US in June.

``I am not aware of this series, but if there has been a direct communication (from the players) to the BCCI President then I won't know,'' Mr. Nair said.— PTI
