THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) has asked the Government to improve the efficiency of the public health delivery system, so as to make it more accessible and affordable to the common man. Introducing in-patient system in the hospitals which do not have adequate facilities, purely out of political considerations, has been doing more harm than good to patients, according to M. Devanandan and B. Mohandas, the State president and general secretary, respectively of the association. Public and political intervention in the day-to-day affairs of the hospitals is adversely affecting their functioning. This has to be checked forthwith. Among the other major demands of the association are fixing of guidelines for private practice of doctors, improvement to the service conditions of doctors in Government service and implementation of a transfer policy.
