MYSORE: Three persons were killed and five injured when an electricity transmission tower collapsed on them in T. Bellekere village in Maddur taluk in Mandya district near here on Monday evening. The police said three workers from Hazaribagh district in Jharkand were crushed to death while the five who sustained injuries have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Mandya for treatment. The incident took place when the tower to transmit electricity from Mysore to Nelamangala was being erected. Rains accompanied by gusty winds lashed the area on Monday evening bringing the tower crashing down. While Pooran Mahato (28) and Sama Hazda (35) were killed on the spot, Hiraman Mahato (35) died on the way to the hospital. The injured, who were also from Jharkand, have been identified as Karma Hazda, H. Mahato, Arjun Singh, Lal Mohan, and Budan Hazda. They were given emergency first aid at the site of the accident before being shifted to the hospital. The police said that all workers were working on a contract with a Chennai-based company. A case has been registered and the police is investigating.
