CHENNAI: : Pattali Makkal Katchi founder-leader S. Ramadoss has criticised the State Government for not taking effective steps to give Constitutional protection to the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes, SCs and STs (reservation of seats in educational institutions) Act ensuring 69 per cent reservation. In a statement here on Tuesday, Dr. Ramadoss said for the 12th year in succession the apex court had passed an interim order directing the State Government to create extra seats in professional colleges to accommodate those affected by the 69 per cent reservation rule. Ever year the State Government was creating additional seats, thereby "negating its own Act" without taking any steps to protect it. The State's attitude only showed its indifferent attitude over the issue. The PMK leader wanted all those committed to social justice to come together to protect 69 per cent reservation for the BCs, MBCs, SCs/STs in the State. Then only would the Act enacted for social justice benefit the communities, he added.
