KOZHIKODE: The Inquiry Commissioner and Vigilance Court Special Judge, B. Sudeendra Kumar, has asked all the witnesses, including the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, in the B.Ed College bribery case to be present when the trial proceedings will be held on August 2. All the three accused in the graft case, the Textfed Chairman, N. Mammootty, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Wayanad district secretary, P.C. Ahmed, and P.P.V. Moosa, were also present in the court on Tuesday. The judge asked the accused if they had anything more to say on the charge against them, to which they answered in the negative. The former Vigilance Court Judge, M.R. Gopalakrishnan Nair, had framed the charge-sheet against the three accused after the proceedings were held on February 14. The judge had stated in the charge-sheet that there was a prima facie case for trial for the offence under Section 9 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Eight witnesses
The eight witnesses who had deposed before the court in the case had included Mr. Chandy, the Metropolitan of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Yoohanon Mar Phelexinos, the Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader and former Water Resources Minister, T.M. Jacob and P.C. George, MLA. The graft charge relates to demand for a bribe by the three accused from the Metropolitan for setting up a B.Ed. College at Meenangadi. The complaint was filed by human rights activist Jomon Puthenpurakkal, on January 20, 2004.
