TDP plea to stop work on Godavari projects

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: The Telugu Desam Party district unit has asked the State Government to take measures to stop the illegal construction of mini-irrigation projects on the Godavari and catchment areas of SRSP in the neighbouring Maharashtra State and protect the interests of Telangana farmers.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the TDP district president, L. Ramana, said that the construction of mini-projects on the Godavari in Maharashtra was detrimental to the interest of Telangana's farmers.

The 12 mini-projects, if completed, would leave the prestigious SRSP, the only hope of Telangana, dry, he said, adding that the future of the ongoing Flood Flow Canal and Yellampalli projects would also remain bleak with no inflows from the river.

Asking the State Government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the issue, he also suggested to the Government to depute an all-party delegation to the project sites in Maharashtra.
