HYDERABAD: The Defence Research and Development Labs will be open for the public on the occasion of National Technology Day on Wednesday. May 11 was declared the Technology Day marking India's elevation into the list of nuclear nations following the Pokhran nuclear tests on that day. DRDL's key technology areas would be showcased along with prototypes of various missiles at the open session. "Technology is the foundation for bringing power to a nation and technological advancements have pervaded offices, streets, homes, entertainment, healthcare and just about every aspect of our lives," the DRDL Director Prahlada told presspersons here today.
Gen X technology
In a Technology Day statement, the Director of the Advanced Systems Laboratory and the Agni missile programme, R.N. Agarwal underlined the need for the nation to focus on Carbon Nanotechnology, the technology of the next generation that was bound to change the material world.
Staff take pledge
The officers and staff of DLRL have pledged to work for the indigenisation of electronic warfare systems on the eve of National Technology Day. In a message, G. Kumaraswamy Rao, director, said the organisation strive to make the country self-reliant in electronic warfare. Eminent scientist M.S.Swaminathan, chairman of Chennai-based M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation, will receive the A.V.Rama Rao Technology Award at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, as part of the day's celebrations. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh.
