Staff Correspondent

  • Health workers to follow up possible left over cases
  • Volunteers to visit about 3.5 lakh houses
  • 18 lakh children likely to be covered
  • 921 booths set up

MANGALORE: The district administration has made all arrangements for the second round of pulse polio vaccination drive, which will be organised on Sunday.

While the drive will be carried out through booth activity on Sunday, there will be follow up on possible left over cases in the next three days. The first round of the drive was held between April 10 and 13.

The health workers hope to cover an estimated 1.8 lakh children, right from a new born baby to those below five years of age.

They had covered 1,82,849 children during the drive last month for an overall achievement of 99.3 percent. The workers will visit around 3,55,083 households across Dakshina Kannada.

In all, 921 booths, including 734 in rural and 187 in urban areas have been set up across the district.

Health workers will undertake intensive house visits in urban and rural areas from Monday onwards to cover any child, that may have been inadvertently not vaccinated on Sunday.

The administration has requisitioned the services of 184 vehicles, which will be placed at the disposal of as many supervisors who will supervise the booth activity on Sunday. The department will avail the services of 3,684 vaccinators on Sunday. They will be stationed at transit points such as railway stations and bus stations throughout the day as well as the airport for a fixed time.

Mohanraj, district health and family welfare officer, said the department has sought the cooperation of leading private hospitals and medical college hospitals in the district.

The administration will supply vaccine to these institutions. These joint efforts have enabled the district to achieve high levels of immunisation under the drive in the past.
