CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday admitted a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Government seeking quashing of the April 15 order of the POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) Review Committee. The committee had held that there was no prima facie case under the provisions of POTA for proceeding against the Tamil Nationalist Movement leader, P. Nedumaran, and four others. The petitioner, K. Krishnan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Q branch CID, said the five persons were accused in a case which is pending trial before the Special Court on POTA in Poonamallee.
Panel failure
He said the Committee failed to consider that the five were staunch supporters of the LTTE, a banned outfit. Admitting the petition, Justice P. Sadasivam, ordered notices and directed that it be posted before a division bench of the High Court on June 15.
