CHENNAI: A part of a Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board tenement at Nochikuppam near the Light House at Mylapore collapsed around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. However, no resident was injured, residents said. According to Fire and Rescue Services personnel, chunks of the two-storey block, including the balcony and sunshade, crumbled and fell. The block has six families residing in it. All of them were evacuated to safety. Residents complained that the most of the blocks, built about 30 years ago, were in a bad shape. They had made several representations to renovate or repair the blocks, but the authorities concerned were yet to take action, residents alleged. The entire Nochikuppam comprises about 50 blocks of TNSCB tenements. Two fire tenders were stationed in the area to attend to any further emergency.
