NEW DELHI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police of the high-profile Special Cell, Ashok Chand, has been transferred to the administrative branch while DCP (Supreme Court Security) A A Farooqui, against whom CBI conducted raids last month, has been shifted to head a battalion of the Armed Police. In a shake-up in Delhi Police ranks, Mr. Chand, an official of Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Pondicherry (DANIPS) cadre who was in the Special Cell for six years during which he participated in encounters against many militants, has been made DCP Headquarters, Establishment. He will be replaced by Ajay Kumar, a DANIPS officer, who was promoted from the post of Additional DCP (New Delhi district), according to an official order. Mr. Farooqui, whose premises were raided by CBI which registered a disproportionate assets case against him, has been put in-charge of the sixth battalion of Delhi Armed Police. Mr. G C Dwivedi, DCP (Vigilance), would replace him while his own place would be taken by Virender Singh who has arrived from Chandigarh administration. The DCP (Licensing), D S Norawat, had been shifted as Additional DCP (Security) while V V Choudhury, Principal of Police Training College would replace him. Mr. Chowdhary's place would be taken by M K Meena who was DCP Traffic (Headquarters) who in turn would be replaced by Mahabir Singh who has arrived from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Manish Aggarwal, Additional DCP (North-West district) would move to New Delhi district in the same rank. He would be replaced by Sagar Preet, presently Additional DCP-II in West district. H S Dhaliwal, who has arrived from Lakshwadeep administration, would take over as Additional DCP-II (West).- PTI
