`Krishna not seen as biased'

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Placing full faith in the former Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna's new role as Governor of Maharashtra, the Chief Minister of that State, Vilasrao Deshmukh, said the people of Maharashtra do not view their Governor with suspicion on any issue, including the border dispute between the two States.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Deshmukh ruled out the possibility of the people of Maharashtra suspecting Mr. Krishna of harbouring a "bias" against the State.

Mr. Deshmukh expressed optimism that Maharashtra's border dispute with Karnataka will be solved "when the time for it comes."

Asked how far Maharashtra will help Karnataka's case in the latter's dispute with Andhra Pradesh over the sharing of Krishna waters, Mr. Deshmukh said the Maharashtra Government is concerned about the interests of its farmers.

The Krishna River Waters Disputes Tribunal is already hearing the matter and Maharashtra will present its case, he said.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister rejected suggestions that his Government's decision to scrap free power to farmers will adversely affect the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party coalition Government in the State.
