HYDERABAD: The APCC president, K. Keshava Rao, on Wednesday informally launched his party's election campaign for the Penukonda Assembly bypoll by asking the electorate to chose between factionism and peace. Though the party has not yet officially announced its candidate, Dr. Keshava Rao outlined the theme of the party's campaign at a press conference on Wednesday. He said the TDP's refusal to keep faction families out of the contest reflected its preference for faction politics despite the ruling party's appeal against the practice, he said. Only a concerted effort on part of everyone would lead to elimination of factionism, he said.
`Naidu owes explanation'
Though the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, appeared to be seeking a sympathy vote in Penukonda, it was tantamount to vote in favour of factionism and hence he vowed an explanation to Anantapur people. The TDP was only reiterating its commitment to factionism by its choice now. The Congress, on the other hand, took a conscientious decision to keep G. Bhanumathi out of the race though one could not brand her a factionist, in the larger interest of the region. The TDP's interest was confined to increasing its strength in the Assembly at the cost of peace, he said. People of Anantapur deserved a better deal as faction violence had ruined hundreds of homes in the district, he said.
