Lucknow: Thousands of Muslims led by noted Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Javad jammed the busy road in front of the Capital Cinema and Shahi Masjid for almost two hours to protest against illegal occupation of properties owned by its Wakf Board. Even as the protests were continuing, an alarmed district administration assured the Maulana that the construction on the Waqf property would be stopped with immediate effect till the issue, which was pending before the Board chairman, was taken to its logical conclusion. Addressing the huge turnout, Kalbe Javad criticised the concerned officials for branding some members of the Board as land mafia. He also stated that the waqfs were public property. "The problem is that our trust's property worth crores of rupees is under government and other land mafia's. We are running a movement from the past 5-6 years so that we can get our property back, so that our community can develop and progress. Many youngsters of our community are unemployed, they do not have any work. If we get our property back then we can do something about the issue. This is our right, which we are not getting. They are all corrupt Wakf board members who sell our properties worth crores in thousands of rupees. They devalue it,'' Kalbe said. R.P. Singh, the Additional District Magistrate (Lucknow) assured Kalbe that construction on disputed site would be stopped till a final decision is reached. "A complex is being constructed here and I was told that complex is the property of Wakf and without any permission the complex is being constructed. We are tracing all the files. The construction process has been stopped. A meeting has been called on May 25 and whatever decision is taken in the meeting, would be acted upon,'' Singh said The administration has issued orders for investigating the matter.
