NGO Union State meet from Saturday

Seminars, cultural meeting and rally to be held

ALAPPUZHA: The 42nd State conference of the Kerala NGO Union will be held at T.K. Balan Nagar here (Alappuzha municipal ground) from Saturday to Tuesday, the organisers have said.

The programme will begin at 9.45 a.m. on Saturday with the flag hoisting ceremony. The State council meeting will begin at 10.15 a.m. The election to the new State council will be held at 4 p.m.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, N. Ram, will inaugurate the conference at 5 p.m. on the day. The newly elected president of the Kerala NGO Union will preside over. The chairman of the reception committee, G. Sudhakaran, will welcome the gathering. The delegates' meeting will begin at 7.30 p.m. that day.

The CITU State general secretary, P.K. Gurudasan, will inaugurate the Friends' Meeting at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday. Those who will address the meeting include the Kerala State Teachers' Association State president, J. Cleetus, the Kerala Gazetted Officers' Association State general secretary, K. Sivakumar, the NGO Centre State president, C.P. John, and the NGO Association State general secretary, J.M. Musthafa.

A seminar on `Globalisation' will be held at 5.30 p.m. that day. V.K. Ramachandran, professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, will present a paper on `The impact of globalisation on Indian society' and T.M. Thomas Issac, MLA, will present a paper on `Globalisation and state administration.'

The CITU State president, K.N. Ravindranath, will address the conference at 11 a.m. on Monday. The social critic Sukumar Azhikode will inaugurate the cultural meeting at 5.30 p.m. on the day.

A rally will be held from the Municipal Ground to Bhattathiri Purayidom here at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, concluding day of the conference. A public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Bhattathiri Purayidom. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, will inaugurate the meeting. Those who will speak at the meeting include the CPI assistant State secretary, Panniyan Ravindran, the Kerala Congress (Joseph) leader K.C. Joseph, N.K. Premachandran, MP, and Janata Dal leader George Varghese.
