ADILABAD: The Adilabad district Collector, J. Sudha Rani, on Wednesday dispelled the doubts over acute drinking water shortage in the district saying: "We are much on the safer side." She said despite the condition not being severe, liberal sanction of works related to drinking water sources like bore wells and open wells during the Praja Patham programme had improved the situation further. Besides, the ongoing National Food for Work (NFFW) programme came in handy for sanctioning double the works than normal. Ms. Sudha Rani told reporters that Praja Patham, which ended on Tuesday, was a great success with officials convening as many as 1,042 meetings in villages and towns. They were able to get a grasp on problems faced by people through these meetings.
Power problem
The Collector said there was some problem with regard to power supply in Narnoor mandal where the villagers had protested when the district in charge and Social Welfare Minister went there on Tuesday. The problem was being taken care of, she added. The Project Director, Indira Kranti Patham, G. Gopi, the district Special Officer, NFFW, and ZP Chief Executive Officer, S. Rajaiah, and the Project Director, District Water Management Agency, L. Venkatram Reddy, were also present. The district-level asset distribution programme will be held at the Police Parade Grounds on Thursday, the Collector informed.
