CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Minister for Public Works Department and Energy, H.D. Revanna, said on Tuesday that the Government intends to fix a uniform power tariff structure to help farmers. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a 66/11 KV distribution station at Ramapura in Kollegal taluk, he said the five power supply companies and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. will spend Rs. 2,000 crores on various works to supply quality electricity. He said a plan has been formulated to take up works such as construction of power stations, new power lines and installation of new transformers. The target is to spend Rs. 13,000 crores on various works within 2012. Mr. Revanna said the Government has decided to generate 3000 MW of power from coal and hydel sources. The Chief Minister sanctioned the project at a meeting in Bangalore on Monday. The meeting decided to construct 150 new power distribution centres this year. The deadline for regularisation of 1.35 lakh illegal power connections has been extended to May 25 with a payment of Rs. 10,000. Nearly 46,000 applications have been received and the Government has spent Rs.500 crore on this scheme. MESCOM officials have been instructed to give power connections to borewells that replace the defunct ones. He said Rs. 60 crores will be spent on easing the power crisis in the district. Mr. Revanna inaugurated a first grade college at Hanur built at a cost of Rs.1.10 crore.
