Plea to quash Tandon's appointment as CEC

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A Supreme Court lawyer on Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court seeking the quashing of the Centre's decision to appoint Election Commissioner B.B. Tandon as Chief Election Commissioner.

The petition, filed by Ravi Mohan, a resident of Mahipalpur village in South Delhi, also urged the court to issue a directive that Mr. Tandon be not administered the oath of office till he was cleared of the charges levelled against him by senior IAS officer L.V. Saptharishi.

Mr. Tandon is scheduled to take charge from incumbent T.S. Krishnamurthy on May 16.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing either on Friday or Saturday.
