MADURAI: The Thamizhaga Magalir Iyakkam has urged the State Government to initiate action, under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, against "ostracism" of Dalits at Keeripatti, a reserved panchayat. The executive committee of the forum, which met here on Tuesday, also resolved to stage a dharna on May 19 to highlight its demands. Apart from insisting the Government to distribute barren land to the ostracized dalits and to take measures on a war footing to rehabilitate them, the forum demanded that all reserved constituencies in the district be declared exclusively for Dalit women candidates. Various issues pertaining to women, including migration in search of employment, cheap labour, increasing suicides among young girls, sexual harassment at workplace etc., were also discussed in the meeting headed by Manohari Das, president of the forum.
