HYDERABAD: A 17-year-old girl committed suicide by setting herself afire in her house near Barkatpura post-office area on Wednesday. Shabana returned from her nurse training classes in the afternoon and was alone as her parents were away. Around 3 p.m., her neighbours noticed smoke emanating from her house. When they ran inside, Shabana was found engulfed in flames. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. Reasons for the suicide were not yet known. The girl failed in the SSC exam, results of which were declared recently. Inquiries with neighbours revealed that the girl of late appeared dejected after her parents chided her for moving with friends "too closely." "It is not yet known what drove her to resort to the extreme step," the Narayanaguda Inspector, T. Chandrashekhara Reddy, said.
