Suspected cannibal held
NEW DELHI:
A 50-year-old vagabond who was carrying the dismembered body of an infant in his bag was arrested in north Delhi on Thursday, police sources said.
The man, who was carrying a bag from which the leg of a child was "sticking out," was spotted by a boy working in a teashop in Yamuna Bazar area. When the boy confronted him, the man started beating him up. Several people of the area soon caught him and called the police.
A search of the bag led to the recovery of the body of a girl, aged about six months. The head and arms of the baby were missing. The man was suspected to be dumb, the sources said.
Local residents said they had seen the vagabond earlier picking up stray puppies, which, they suspected he had eaten. Police did not rule that he might have eaten the missing body parts of the baby.
