The manufacturing sector pulls up the overall growth rate
|
NEW DELHI:
Aided by a boom in the manufacturing sector with a 8.8 per cent growth, the year 2004-05 ended with an overall industrial growth of 8 per cent, according to the data released here on Thursday by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) on the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
As for March alone, the quick estimates of the IIP (base 1993-94) reveal that with the general index standing at 225.8, the overall industrial growth rate was higher by 7.2 per cent as compared to that in March 2004. This again, was possible owing to the substantially higher growth of 7.8 per cent achieved by the manufacturing sector while mining and electricity revealed lower growth rates at 5.6 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively as compared to the same month in the previous year.
