BANGALORE: Vatal Nagaraj, MLA, created a flutter at the meeting here on Thursday of Kannada writers, educationists and others on the introduction of English in government primary schools by questioning the purpose behind the Kannada Sahitya Parishat organising the meeting. Mr. Nagaraj entered into an argument with the noted scholar M. Chidananda Murthy as soon as the meeting began. The leader of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, who was an invitee, alleged that the meeting had been convened to formulate a strategy for the introduction of English language in primary schools. "The holding of the meeting is dangerous and against the interests of the Kannada-speaking people," he shouted. When the MLA refused to relent and continued to speak, Dr. Murthy asked him to go out of the hall and stage a protest on the road. Enraged by Prof. Murthy's remark, Mr. Nagaraj asked, "Who are you to tell me to go out?" The Sahitya Parishat President, Chandrashekar Patil, appealed to Mr. Nagaraj to allow others to speak. But he continued his protest and boycotted the meeting.
