NEW DELHI: The following press note was issued on Thursday by Corporate Communication, Sahara India Pariwar: "Sahara India Pariwar condemns the frivolous petition (habeas corpus) filed in the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court by one B.N. Shukla claiming himself as a friend and well-wisher of Mr. Subrata Roy, Managing Worker and Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar. He is neither a friend nor a well wisher and Mr. Roy says he does not even know Mr. B.N. Shukla. The mischievous act of the above-named Mr. Shukla is only to gain cheap publicity. "The petition is an abuse and misuse of the process of law. The issue is taken by the Sahara India Pariwar and its members as a derogatory and frivolous attack on the Pariwar of 9.10 lakh Kartavyayogis. Understanding the sentiments of the Pariwar and the mischief being played by Mr. Shukla, Mr. Roy has instructed his lawyer to appear in the Court, to oppose the petition, and request the Hon'ble Court to take stern action and criminally prosecute those responsible for maligning the reputation and goodwill of Sahara India Pariwar and its respected members and for filing a false petition and affidavit." PTI reports from Lucknow: A company spokesman said Mr. Roy was in good health and he had been doing his official work regularly. ``Mr. Roy is hale and hearty and has been attending to his regular office work,'' according to Sahara communication spokesman Zeeshan Ahmed. ``He (Roy) arrived here about four days back and has been doing his regular work,'' Mr. Ahmed said.
Plea dismissed
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed the habeas corpus petition claimed to have been filed on behalf of Mr.Roy. Justice O.P. Srivastava dismissed the petition after the Sahara group counsel Arun Kumar Sinha produced a letter purported to have been written by Mr. Roy saying he had not been kept in illegal detention or confinement.
