BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress president, Shobha Oza, has condemned the dastardly attack on Shakuntla Verma, an anganwadi worker from Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. Ms. Verma was attacked and her arms chopped on Tuesday after she had tried to stop a villager from marrying off his minor girls on Akshaya Tritiya on Wednesday. Talking to The Hindu after visiting Ms. Verma in an Indore hospital, where doctors have operated upon her to save her arms, Ms. Oza said the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur's initial statement that this incident should not be linked to child marriages was "absurd". She said it was unfortunate that even 48 hours after the attack, no arrest had been made. The Dhar incident should be treated as an atrocity against a woman and the State Government should be held responsible for this, Ms. Oza asserted.
