Sriram, Sundaram hog the limelight

Mysore: Tamil Nadu's Sriram Balaji (boys under-16 singles and doubles) and Kelsey Sundaram (girls under-14 & under-16 singles) hogged the limelight by winning a grand double in the Advaith Motors-AITA championship series junior (under-14 and under-16) championship at the Vontikoppal courts here on Thursday.

Sriram Balaji won the boys' under-16 singles title, knocking out the top-seed Sujith Sachidanand (Kar) 6-3, 6-0.

Sriram broke Sujith's service games in the fourth and eighth games to take the first set at 6-3. The second set saw Sriram race to a big 4-0 lead and ultimately went on to take the set and the tie at 6-0. Sriram earlier had combined well with State-mate V. Sudarshan to win the doubles title by beating the Karnataka pair of Preetham Roy Mores and Sujith Sachidanand 6-4, 6-4 to bag a grand double.

Kelsey Sundaram of Tamil Nadu, seeded No.4, outplayed the second seed, Divya M. Rao of Andhra Pradesh 6-2, 6-0 and bagged the girls' under-14 singles title. Later she completed a fine double by winning the girls' under-16 singles title by beating Aishwarya Agarwal (MP) 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

Boys' under-16 Doubles: (Final): Sriram Balaji /V. Sudharshan (TN) bt Preetham Roy Mores/ Sujith Sachidanand (Kar) 6-4, 6-4.

Boys' under-14 singles: (Final): Jugal Marfatia (Mah) bt A.N. Muddappa (Kar) 6-3, 6-4. Semifinal: Jugal Marfatia (Mah) bt Yeshwanth Nadella (AP) 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Boys' under-14 Doubles: Final: Elwin Anthony/S. Siddarth (TN) bt Chetan Pandit/Vinayak Kaza Sarma (AP) 6-7(4), 6-2, 7-6(8). Semifinals: Chetan Pandit/Vinayak Kaza Sarma (AP) bt C.M. Kiran/Chirag S Igoor (Kar) 8-4; Elwin Anthony/S. Siddarth (TN) bt Vinod Gowda/S.S. Prithvi (Kar) 8-5.

Girls' under-16 singles: (Final): Kelsey Sundaram (TN) bt Aishwarya Agarwal (MP) 6-1, 6-2. Semifinal: Kelsey Sundaram (TN) bt Sharmadha Balu (Kar) 6-3, 6-2; Aishwarya Agarwal (MP) bt Likitha Devaraj (Kar) 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

Girls' under-14 singles: (Final): Kelsey Sundaram (TN) bt Divya M Rao (AP) 6-2, 6-0. Semifinal: Divya M. Rao (AP) bt Sharmadha Balu (Kar) 6-3, 6-2.

Girls' under-14 Doubles: Final: Rachita Sarda/Nimisha Mohan (Kar) bt Aishwarya Agarwal/Shivani Singh (MP) 8-4.
