DGP visits site of new SP office

Highway patrol during Courtallam season

TIRUNELVELI: : The Director General of Police (Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation), I.K. Govind, on Thursday visited the District Police Office at Samathanapuram here, where a three-storey building is to be constructed on an outlay of Rs.3 crores to house various departments of the police, including the Office of the Superintendent of Police.

"Till the completion of the new building, the SP's office would be functioning from the premises of the Police Training School on the South High Ground Road (A.R. Line Road) for the next 18 months and hence the petitioners should come to the new premises" the SP, Anand Kumar Somani, told reporters Thursday evening.

He said the proposed building would have all modern facilities for all departments of police, including a canteen.

Security arrangeme Courtallam

On security arrangements to be made during the ensuing Courtallam season, Mr. Somani said a special meeting, chaired by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Tenkasi, Santhosh Kumar, was already convened recently in which traders, owners of hotels and lodges and representatives of Rotary and Lions Clubs participated.

"Besides involving more police personnel and patrol teams to ensure foolproof security during the Courtallam season, a special highway patrol van will be pressed into service on the Tenkasi - Sivagiri stretch. Moreover, special police teams from southern districts would be camping at Courtallam to curb movements of inter-district anti-socials," he said.

He commended the valiant efforts of sub-inspector of police, Tenkasi, Chakravarthy, and his team in nabbing wine shop robbers, and the team, which unravelled the mysterious death of a youth from Suththamalli recently.
